January 20 Obaminate me!
Where were you when Obama became President Obama? What a historic date, but has anyone else noticed the influx of African Americans on TV from CNN to Fox to CP24? What's the deal? It's not a bad thing just odd... just because the new president is black don't mean everyone's gotta follow suit... it's like black is the new black. It's like imagine the first.... say chinese president will all of a sudden chinese reporters and hosts appear to TVs all over the US? For many this is a dream come true, for me it's just a dream which may or may not turn into a nightmare. Change and hope are the slogans but what of them? change and hope for who? How many people still think the Illuminati is just a fucking conspiracy theory? How many people still think or don't know of the Amero or N.A.U? If anyone can usher in a such a drastic change Obama is the man, with his amount of clout people will think it's a good idea, with this current recession and all I'm sure it can make economic sense to do so... especially if you got guys like the Chicago boys cooking the books. The point is Obama has all the cards now and he's been nothing but talk. It's time for the big reveal. Does he have the royal flush or has he been bluffing? I hope he has it. I really really fucking do... "I call wretched all who have only one choice to become an evil beast or an evil tamer of beasts" - Nietzsche
January 17 Hope.... Yes we can....January 06 best of 08Here's my top 5 best movies of 08.
This is a fucking epic... one of those movies that will stand the test of time...like Forrest Gump... actually that's exactly what it is, the new Forrest Gump but better.
I never cry at movies but I swear I was on the verge with this one... must see.... best of 08 hands down, first class performances by Pitt and Blanchett, amazing visual effects and score... I...ehh..... I can't say anymore as I can do this movie no justice.
I maybe biased on this one a little because Mickey Rourke is the fucking man but regardless it's a great movie. If you know the story behind Mickey Rourke's career it feels like this movie was written for him, to all of you who thought Rourke was washed up or was never good to begin with... well then really you don't know Rourke. Who ever thought that a proper scum bag would be able to pull at the heart strings like he does, this is defintely Rourkes best performance ever and perhaps that's because his character and the story mimics his life so well. This could be Rourke's ticket to an Oscar.... seeing Rourke in the Wrestler changes everything.... all of a sudden he's got this credibility... this true soul of an actor which so many people never thought he had in him. Although Pitt in Benjamin Button warrants an Oscar, I'd hope that whoever decides that shit gives it to Rourke... this could be his one last and only epic role where as Pitt... well he's one of Hollywoods golden gods and the acadamy or whoever should know this and give the golden globe and oscar to Rourke since I'm sure Pitt will turn out another hit next year and another and another
Heath Ledger = Oscar. I think everyone has seen this movie by now and can all agree that it's the best Batman movie ever and perhaps the best superhero movie ever made too. I thought the story line was great, especially loved the opening bank robbery, Bale does Bruce Wayne justice but could work on his Batman mean while Ledger steals the whole fucking show and Eckhart was pretty good too. When anyone mentions the dark knight I think Ledger and Ledger only. Ledger has created something bigger than himself, even bigger than the Batman. He's created this myth, this legend now known as the joker, and no one will be able to fill those shoes again... if there was one role to be known for, one role to sum up one's entire acting career... Ledger as the joker.... spells it all, sheer brillianace
This came right outta left field. Anyone here seen Twilight? A teen romance/vampire flick which is getting a lot of attention right now... well I'll say this, once you see Let the right one in you'll forget all about... huh....what was that movie again... never mind let the right one in is a great movie as long as you don't let subtitles bother you and because of the subtitles I feel that many will ignore this masterpiece of swedish film making. This is by far the most interesting vampire movie made since interview with a vampire. Possibly the best horror flick of 08 if you consider it a horror but I don't... the script and the acting and everything invokes a lot more emotion than your average horror flick.
Colin Farrel and Brendan Gleeson put on a great show. This is one of those movies which proves the point, all you need is a good script. Farrel really stepped up to the plate and gave a great performance you probably wouldn't expect to see from him and when you've been around as long as Gleeson you can do no wrong. The movie was smart, funny, and twisted. This is really my kind of movie, where the dialogue just flows and takes you in directions you never thought you'd be in. brilliant movie.
And of course there are a lot of other great movies that came out this year so I'll mention a few of the others I really enjoyed...
Close but no cigar
Wall-E <--- best animated movie by far
Iron man <--- second best comic adaptation this year behind batman
Tropic thunder <--- hilarious
Slumdog millionaire <--- possibly the best original script written
Froxt vs Nixon
The diving bell and the butterfly (technically 07 but really could also be 08, I mean it premiered in 07 but got some international releases during 08 and really if it were released in 08, then it would have been in my top 5 beating in Bruges and even perhaps let the right one in)
Hellboy 2 <--- very very close to Iron man
And of course I haven't seen all the movies that were released last year but I certainly tried.
I'll also leave you with my golden globes picks
Best Performance by an Actress - Angelina Jolie - Drama
Best Performance by an Actor - Mickey Rourke - Drama (although Brad Pitt is definitly a favourite to win to complete the Brangelina domination of the oscars.) Best Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy - In Bruges Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy - Frances McDormand - Burn after Reading Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy - Colin Farrell or Brendan Gleeson Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture - Marisa Tomei - The wrestler (althought won't be surprised if Winslet wins) Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture - Heath Ledger - Dark knight Best Animated Feature Film - Wall-E Best Foreign Language Film - .... honestly it should be let the right one in but it wasn't even nominated and I never saw the other ones that were Best Director - Motion Picture - David Fincher - Curious case of Benjamin Button Best Screenplay - Motion Picture - Benjamin Button or slumdog millionaire Best Original Score - Motion Picture - Benjamin button Best Original Song - Motion Picture - The boss as in Springsteen - the wrestler
